Chanel tradition

If I ever hear the word "tweed suit" or "tailored suit", I instantly think of Chanel. Coco Chanel made her perfectly simple and structured suits a trademark, and this is why in my "vintage list needs in my life" I wanted to own an original Chanel suit. The soft blue and the fact that is so well preserved makes it even more especial.

I didn't want to mess up the look the first time I used it because this is what I think of the Chanel tradition. Makes me remember of dressed up women in the 50's walking around Champs Elysées when the Chanel suits had made their comeback. I can't wait to wear it in a more modern version. Leather shorts and big sandals will go great with the blazer.

I'd been meaning to wear a real kimono just open and cape-like. I love that kimonos make everything vibrant and strong, while they are so silk-light and beautifully printed. One of the amazing things in Japanese heritage.

I'm back!! I know it's been 3 days. This time the coldest weather got me a real cold. Basically it's been just tea, water, chicken soup, vegetables, my bed and some magazines to get me better this weekend. I'm so excited for Christmas and for eating turkey. Saturday night outfit. I'd been looking before for a jacket to spice up a simple dress at night and feeling more warm. This Versace for H&M jacket did it just well, and it's actually quite cozy on the inside. I remembered I had this Mango dress from some years ago, and thought it actually looks Versace like. I also liked that the Wang velvet boots pair well with the velvet jacket.

Don't imagine I'd go in high heels walking into the forest. This is merely an expression of what I thought when I got this Givenchy wool cape. It's almost a costume piece of a character in a forest story, and this is why I like it so much. Normally I imagine a cape in black (or anything dark), and being this one so white makes it so strong-looking. It's actually becoming so useful, and it looks just well with only Topshop skinnies and ballerina flats.

I received these jeans as a gift from my friend Marijera in Tokyo. I first thought they were going to be too tight, but they fit perfectly and are actually really comfortable. (the best other thing, is that I also got silver ones!) I found these boots at my mom's closet recently, and have been wearing them lately. The heel is not too high, hence perfect for walking.

I was saving this beautiful dress to shoot it before using it in an actual event, but in the day of the Versace for H&M

show, though I had a completely different outfit planned, I saw it glowing in the luggage and figured out it was what I needed for the glamorous night. And it was worth it.

It is a Roberto Cavalli dress I saw for the first time shot in Daria Werbowy for Vogue Paris a few seasons ago, and that I couldn't resist of getting as soon as I tried it on( or actually a soon as I recognized it from that great editorial). I don't think I had seen before that an animal print worked so well in sequins. I also am enamored by the mermaid shape, the fact that gently shows your legs when you walk, and the uncovered back.

I was lately obsessed about finding these velvet wide leg trousers from the Fall 2006 Roberto Cavalli collection.
The finest velvet fabric, the printed gold birds and the color all together remind me of something linked with renaissance royalty clothes. I love that it is such a luxurious touch, transformed into wide leg pants.
I feel really excited to shoot them at night too, they have a special and enchanting glow in the dark.

Many times, I ask myself before buying any piece whether I'll use it more than once or not. Following that rule, I could had said "not buying" when I saw this dress, but I instantly said YES. I didn't doubt it. After I tried it on, I felt like Versace. I saw the sensuality and extravaganza italiana Versace has always had. I loved the Versace prints and the other things too (I got a couple of them); however,

Here are a few snaps I took of the Versace for H&M show I had the pleasure to attend this week at the Versace hall.

From arriving to the red carpet, passing then to enjoy cocktails and then watching the show in a labyrinth-like runway with the best current model faces, the event had the whole Versace essence on it. An extra story starts when the show finished and Donatella personally lead us to the concert hall to see Nicki Minaj and Prince perform (separately of course), followed by a crazy pre-shopping of the collection. I'm already working on a single post for this part, wanting to show you what I picked from the store.

I know this has been an overload of pictures, but this was just actually a quick view of the day. That was a big great day!
I felt it was worth to put it out here, because after 10 hours of wearing these Prada's I was still alive!
For me Japan is one of a kind place. You can feel tradition as well as innovation going hand by hand together. It is a magical place where I feel like being home. One thing is exactly the same still, we're crazy shoppers! (2nd thing why I feel at home). Thank you Tokyo and Vogue for the huge event, for having me there as a special guest and for making this beautiful trip happen.

Some weeks ago I was invited by Versace and by the team at H&M to attend their Versace for H&M runway show tomorrow. Yesterday I was flown from Tokyo to NYC, and after recovering from the long flight with some good NY meals, I'm about to try to take a good sleep (If my biological clock still works) here at the welcoming Soho Grand Hotel. It is presumed to be a one of a kind H&M event, including a great performance, pre-shopping of the collection boutique, and after party, so I'm excited for tomorrow! I can't wait to get some shots and show you my personal view of this collection. Do you already have your own favorites?

Tokyo flashes, Fashion's Night out

As in the title, this is just a small preview, a first part, of the overwhelming, huge, and exciting day that was the FNO here in Tokyo. I hadn't seen before an event where so many influential fashion characters got together for a day, in one city. I will have to summarize in the next posts a full camera card, that includes an opening ceremony with the whole group of Conde Nast editors of all the world, dining and partying in the American Embassy while Jennifer Hudson was singing, apart from the biggest luxury boutique trip I had in my life. I have also to start packing for NYC!

Louis Vuittonning

I entered in some boutiques around Omotesando today, and when at the Louis Vuitton store, I tried this headpiece. Just as beautiful and flawless as in the runway. Too bad I had spent a huge part of my budget in my little dog's clothes before... but my pet has now new kimonos and sweaters for winter, at least... right?

Before my brain stops functioning after 22 hours of no sleeping, it is time to get some rest, because tomorrow is the Tokyo Fashion's Night Out!

I found this Givenchy shirt a few weeks ago, and right away it got on me that it was my favorite shirt pick from the last Fall. Gold and sheer black silk works always so well, and these inserted studs on the cuffs and in the front make this shirt perfect. The fact of discovering that it had the enough length to wear it as a dress was that plus needed to decide the piece was worth for the closet (I wonder why do I always have to find this excuses to cheer myself up, do you happen to do this?)

Anyway, it's monday, and it feels fair to find things to cheer you up. In my case, I did it with eating topped strawberry nutella crepes, coffee, and watching the 5th season of Sex & the City, which I actually watched the whole weekend.
Good times! What is it that cheers you up always?

Exactly two weeks ago, my heart STOPPED. I entered the Givenchy boutique, and the first thing I saw was the black panthers and their fierce eyes looking at me. A minute after, I just focused my view on this bag. I felt fragile, seduced, and hypnotized by every detail it had, and I knew I finally had found it. It was the perfect bag!
I love the dark-sided view of Givenchy, and this time, it went deeper and more provocative than ever. I'm fascinated by their fall collection, and specially by my new bag.

I picked these full wide leg trousers in Madrid's airport at Zara 3 weeks ago and then bought the blazer in Paris. I'm so in the mood for complete uniforms that make statement, and these couple made a really good match. A very urban uniform I'd say influenced by Céline and Balmain together, luckily at Zara price. I wore it with this Gucci vintage bag, and hair slicked to keep it strong.

Denni Elias for Mode Gal magazine cover

It seems unreal when you see yourself on the cover of a magazine. One year ago this fact wouldn't have crossed my mind.
About 2 months ago I was shot by the NYLON Japan team to be on their special issue, Mode Gal, in a very large spread (12 pages of it!). I was thrilled and excited for collaborating with them and honored for being chosen to be kind of the "image" of EModa (coolest Japanese brand and designer) in this issue.
One day before the shoot, I didn't know if I was reading well in the itinerary sheet, but it said something like this: " Shooting Denni for the cover at the Studio". Wait!!.. on the cover?! (I then remembered I actually saw the magazine when I was in Tokyo with Lindsay Lohan on the cover..)

Now that the magazine is out, the 2nd issue, it all becomes more real. Much more when I receive so much great e-mails sending me the news that I'm on the cover everywhere in Japan! Everything at the shooting for the magazine went so well, and honestly, I was so nervous for the cover!
Thank you so much to the lovely NYLON Japan/ ModeGal team, the sweet designer Ena, Saga, an amazing photographer, and each one of you, for appreciating what I love doing!

This shirt's smoothness and the subtle printed design and statement green shade makes it one of my favorite vintage ones. It is an Yves Saint Laurent I hadn't used because I was keen on using it only with a black pencil skirt, which now I'll save for later. Denim cut-offs seemed like the right choice this time. Actually, so many times cut-offs are THE right choice!

Girls story. It seems that high glamour won't convince Isabel Marant either for next spring.

I like that she combines anything short, appealing and rock&rollish with knit jerseys and relaxed summer

pieces; it always makes it look stronger and usable. Comfortable inspiration.

- weather in Paris is perfect = I had to cut out all the (fashion week) outfits that included pants or sweaters. I like though.
- Balmain looked a little like this, multiplied 3 times in sophistication. So good. Already set 3 favorite looks on the wallpaper.
- I'm becoming too satisfied with this new season. What about you?

I was dressed in this gorgeous Dolce&Gabbana piece to attend their big show last week in Milan (ps. One of the best venues, collection, finale and the whole show for sure this season!)

I'm still amazed by this dress. I never pictured that a dress with longeur below the knee would beat so many little dresses I normally like so much.

Little mermaid meets Donatella Versace. The show in Milan was perfection made under the sea. I liked so much the way the collection felt so vibrant to everyone, and that also transmited somehow a really happy mood about it. This show reaches all my expectatives of a perfect mermaid dress. Versace has always had this Medusa motiff, and these themed detailed dresses either from a coral reef or from down under the sea, are representing well Donatella's personality. Complimenti Versace!

Landed yesterday in beautiful Paris, so today's plans are just to arrange things for the fashion week here and enjoy friend's company. The best way to start the week.

Twelve Months Til Christmas

For most people, the holiday season is over and done with. Christmas decorations have been put back into storage, the tree has been disposed of, and New Year's resolutions are probably starting to crumble in the face of reality.

For arts entrepreneurs, however, the situation is quite different. If their plans are not already set in stone, now is the time of year when they try to figure out what they can do to boost box office sales in December of 2011.

For some people, it's a no-brainer:

Ballet companies have December blocked off as Nutcracker season.
Symphony orchestras and choral groups know that December is the season for performances of Handel's Messiah.
Gospel performances of Black Nativity will no doubt be held in several cities.
Numerous performances of The Santaland Diaries (by David Sedaris) will dot the cultural landscape.
The Rockettes will undoubtedly appear in another Christmas spectacle at Radio City Music Hall.
Some regional opera companies may be considering a production of Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel.
Nearly a dozen cities will stage some version of the Christmas Revels.
Many regional theatre companies will revive their productions of A Christmas Carol.
The Kinsey Sicks will probably be performing their holiday show, Oy Vey In A Manager in some unlucky major metropolis.

While limited-run productions of shows like Irving Berlin's White Christmas and Elf pop up from time to time, a recent posting by Jason Zinoman in the ArtsBlog that appears in the New York Times bemoaned the lack of sentimental new works that could beef up December's box office receipts. As Zinoman explained:

I love Italy. Everytime I come here (specially for the Fashion week), I remember the perfect times I always spend. This picture was taken when I was on my way to the Moschino show by my friends at Stockholm streetsyle. I can't wait to share the news about the shows I've been attending (Versace yesterday was an amazing mermaid's tale!)

Now I'm off to a Versace event, then Frankie Morello, Just Cavalli and ending with Moschino Cheap&Chic. So excited to see them all.

I think everyone at the show yesterday was absolutely satisfied, because it was a pure statement of Dolce&Gabbana. Stefano and Domenico went back to the archives to choose the most beautiful scarves and transformed them into a complete collection of glamourous and classy cocktail dresses. We're still on with prints for the next season! I'll keep in mind those silky printed shoes and golden coin earrings, definitely.

It instantly cheers me up to see a beautiful dress. It doesn't
have to do with trends, or designers. It is more about a
garment that naturally belongs to women.

This vintage Balmain dress, from the 70's, is created perfectly;
it's handmade work, the inserted crystals, the huge amount of
fabric and the tailoring. I admire it and am impressed by
every detail in it. It is really what couture represented back
in those decades.

This post makes me remember that I started the blog for my honest
passion and admiration for everything within the fashion
industry, and for the willing to express my own voice (and of course have some fun!). I'm really
thankful, happy and satisfied because until today, I still
continue making Chicmuse for the same reason, and I thank you for
being here and letting me share with you what I truly like!
